Hall Monitors

The DOJ has held conversations with local prosecutors about dropping the case against Mayor Eric Adams, with rumors swirling that it may be in exchange for his resignation. Adams’ lawyer Alex Spiro said directly that the Mayor is not resigning, and called the rumor “completely false.” (NY Times & NY Daily News)

Adams has announced a reshuffle at City Hall, including new hires in the First Deputy Mayor’s office, the Chief of Staff’s office, the Chief Counsel’s office, and the Deputy Mayor for Administration’s office. A full list of new hires, as well as their bios, can be found here.

Gov. Hochul condemned a vote by CUNY’s faculty union to boycott Israeli entities. The system’s Professional Staff Congress will divest their investment vehicles from Israeli stocks and bonds by the end of the month. They also called on the city government’s retirement plan to do the same. The CUNY administration joined Hochul in condemning the union’s vote. (Times of Israel)

Capitol Gains

Gun violence has declined to its lowest level since 2006, when New York began tracking this data outside of NYC. Shootings were down 28% in 2024, and Hochul is claiming victory on her programs to stop gun violence. She also highlighted how her new executive budget would further fund these programs with an additional $370 million. (Press Release)

Immigration officials have been sighted upstate, as the ICE raids from the last few days in NYC look to move upwards. Officers wearing “Homeland Security Investigator” vests were seen taking people out of apartment buildings popular with migrants in Geneva, NY. The federal government has not yet explained what the officers are doing. (Rochester First)

GE Verona announced a $96 million expansion to their factory in Niskayuna, which will be supported with $9.63 million in state tax credits and is expected to create 75 new jobs in the region. The two labs constructed will focus on decarbonization and electrification. (Times Union)

Trail Mix

Former. New York Congressman and Gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin has been confirmed as the new head of the Environmental Protection Agency in a 56-42 vote. Three Democrats voted alongside all 53 Republicans: Sens. Gallego (AZ), Kelly (AZ), and Fetterman (PA). (AP)

Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo were the punching bags at a mayoral forum on the Upper West Side. Neither were in attendance, which made them easy targets. Blake, Lander, Mamdani, Myrie, Ramos, Stringer, and Tilson were in attendance. You can watch the full forum here. (City & State)
