— After years of tenant complaints, New York City has seized a Bronx apartment building from a negligent landlord for the first time in seven years. The city plans to turn the building into affordable co-ops, a move local leaders hope will set a precedent for holding bad landlords accountable. While tenants are celebrating, city officials are also pushing to revive a modified version of the controversial Third-Party Transfer program to address similar situations in the future. (Gothamist)
— The Trump administration is clawing back $106 million in FEMA aid earmarked for NYC's migrant crisis. Mayor Adams is furious, calling the move 'unlawful' and vowing to fight the decision in court to keep the money in the city. (Tammany Times)
— Eric Adams is catching heat for praising ICE and Tom Homan, with Public Advocate Jumaane Williams blasting him. Williams accused the mayor of having a "MAGA-red" agenda when addressing the city's migrant crisis. Williams has been a consistent critic of Adams, especially on issues of public safety and handling migrants. (Tammany Times)
Capitol Gains
— The state budget is delayed, and Senate Deputy Leader Mike Gianaris isn't happy with Gov. Hochul's negotiation tactics. Gianaris claims Hochul's strategy of dragging out negotiations to pressure lawmakers 'never works'. Legislators are prepared to stay in Albany until a budget agreement is reached, even if it means canceling or shortening their scheduled Spring Break, which was supposed to begin tonight. (Tammany Times)
— Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is pushing a bill to block Gov. Hochul from slipping policy changes into the budget, which would allow lawmakers to still get paid even if they miss the April 1st deadline. Hochul's office fired back, saying lawmakers should just pass a budget if they're so concerned about their paychecks. (Gothamist)
— The Trump Administration just froze a cool $1 billion in federal funding earmarked for Cornell University. This comes amid an investigation into potential civil rights violations related to discrimination based on race, color, or national origin. Cornell hasn't commented yet, and risks losing funds for research and state programs. (Tammany Times)

Trail Mix
— Looks like Andrew Cuomo's getting a little help from his friends in his mayoral bid. "Piano Man" Billy Joel just dropped $50,000 into a Super PAC supporting Cuomo, who's the godfather to one of Joel's daughters. But some critics are side-eyeing Joel's support from his Florida residence, arguing he's no longer in a "New York State of Mind." (This article is one of the best Post articles I've read in a while, 10/10 pun game from the Post this morning.) (NY Post)
— Michael Blake sat down for his New York Editorial Board interview, and took a combative tone with his opponents. Blake called Cuomo a bully and slammed Adams for cozying up to Trump. When grilled about past work for a Bermudan political party that could have required him to register as a foreign agent, Blake gave a very uncertain maybe. (Tammany Times)
— Carolyn Maloney might need a fact-checker for her social media posts. The former NY Representative tweeted a photo celebrating Greek Independence Day with Nicole Malliotakis, but mistakenly identified the Staten Island Republican as a 'Democrat from Texas.' To make matters worse, she also got the location wrong, placing the Manhattan event in Astoria, Queens. (Tammany Times)
